Located on the Edwards Plateau, Lampasas County is a Texas county with a population of 21,627, according to the 2020 census. Its county seat is the city of Lampasas, and the county is named after the Lampasas River. Here are some key events that have shaped Lampasas County:
Indigenous peoples were the first inhabitants of the area, followed by tribes such as the Tonkawa, Lipan Apache, and Comanche.
In 1721, the Aguayo expedition passed through the county. In 1756, a presidio was established by Don Pedro de Terreros with the help of elements of the Spanish Army.
The first permanent settlers were Moses Hughes and his wife Hannah in 1853, who came to take advantage of the medicinal springs.
The town of Burleson was established in 1855 and later renamed Lampasas, becoming the county seat when the county was formed in 1856.
The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway extended its line to Lampasas in 1882, and the Texas Bankers Association had its beginnings in Lampasas in 1885.
Other notable events include the formation of the Lampasas Guards in 1859 to ward off Indian attacks, the birth of the Farmers' Alliance in 1875, the establishment of the Pierian Club of Lampasas in 1902, and the arrival of the Texas Power and Light Company in the 1920s. Today, Lampasas County is part of the Killeen-Temple metropolitan statistical area, and Lone Star Gas provides services to the county.

The US 190 Bridge at the Colorado River, located near Lometa, Texas, has a rich history that dates back to 1939-40. The bridge connects U.S. Route 190 across the Colorado River between Lampasas County, Texas and San Saba County, Texas. It is a continuous through truss bridge that replaced the damaged Red Bluff Bridge, a Pennsylvania truss bridge that was destroyed in a flood in July 1938.
The Texas Highway Department designed the bridge, while the Virginia Bridge Company fabricated it. The construction was carried out by Cage Brothers & L.A. Turner. In recognition of its historical significance, the US 190 Bridge at the Colorado River was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.
Today, the bridge is not only a vital transportation link but also an attraction for visitors who appreciate its historical value. Travelers passing through the area can learn about the bridge's significance and admire its unique design.
